Course details
“A group facilitator needs: self awareness (being with yourself), awareness of others (being with others) and commitment to the group fulfilling its purposes” – Dale Hunter
As a parent educator and Positive Discipline facilitator, you know this work isn’t just about teaching tools — it’s about holding space for transformation. But that’s easier said than done when participants resist, disengage, or bring their own hurt into the room.
This 3-hour experiential workshop is designed to help you deepen your ability to stay present, flexible, and attuned to your participants — so you can meet them where they are and gently shepherd them toward meaningful growth.
Workshop Purpose/objective
You’ll learn how to embody the very principles you teach — belonging, significance, kindness, firmness — while navigating the real-world challenges of facilitation. We’ll practice how to adjust your presence, your plan, and your mindset to create the conditions for transformation, even when the room gets tough.
By the end, you’ll feel more grounded, confident, and capable of guiding parents at the pace they’re ready for.
Main Takeaways
- Learn how to create a safe, connected space — where people can actually open up and learn
- Understand how your flexibility unlocks belonging & significance in the room
- Practice responding to participant resistance with curiosity instead of defensiveness
- Deepen your grasp of Positive Discipline theory — and how to model it in action
- Explore practical tools and role-plays for adapting your facilitation style to meet the needs of the group
- Leave with strategies to guide your participants toward the transformation they’re ready for — without pushing or retreating
Cost
$150.00 regular registration ($125 early bird rate until July 9th)

Workshop Flow & Structure
Here’s how we’ll spend our time together in this 3-hour, live workshop:
Creating Connection, Safety & Expectations
We’ll model how to open a room with warmth, clarity, and flexibility — setting the tone for authentic learning and co-creation. We’ll also establish shared agreements and reflect on what you most want to take away from this experience.
Deepening Theory & Modeling It in Action
Through interactive activities and discussion, we’ll revisit Positive Discipline theory (belonging & significance), explore how you embody it as a facilitator, and reflect on how to bring both kindness & firmness to life.
You’ll also assess your own flexibility and practice adjusting your approach to meet participants’ needs without losing sight of your goals.
Bringing Positive Discipline to Life With Tough Participant Experiences
We’ll name and normalize the challenges that show up in workshops — resistance, disengagement, defensiveness — and connect these behaviors to unmet needs. You’ll practice real-life scenarios, learning how to respond with curiosity, guide with care, and keep the room safe & focused.
Facilitator-Helping- Facilitator Problem-Solving Process
In this collaborative segment, you’ll bring your real-life facilitation challenges to the group and receive creative, supportive solutions from your peers — all through the lens of flexibility and presence.
Closing & Next Steps
We’ll wrap up with reflections, commitments, and inspiration to help you carry what you’ve learned into your next workshop.
